it’s time to gird my loins and soldier on.
this year boasts challenges I’ve yet to face.
my babies’ babyhoods have clearly gone,
and now it’s time to run this human race.

as in a fairy tale, I feel cast out,
to seek my fortune out on our green earth.
I’m so afraid I feel that I might shout,
but I must earn some sheckles – and self-worth.

instead, say ‘worth in other peoples’ eyes’
who judge and nag, resent, and maybe love.
perhaps now is the time, despite his lies.
I think I’d better jump before the shove.

but still, to walk among this world
may be too much for this old girl.
